Evaluation for 5.5b
Materials include a description of how TEKS process standards are incorporated and connected throughout the course.
The materials describe how the TEKS process standards are incorporated throughout the course through recurring lesson components that prompt students to make sense of problems, use representations, communicate ideas, and justify reasoning. For example, the
TX Math Teacher Course Guide K–5, “What’s in a Kiddom Lesson?” section, explains that warm-ups help students connect to prior knowledge, activities provide opportunities for problem-solving, and syntheses allow students to connect and discuss mathematical ideas. It also explains that cooldowns provide formative assessment to guide next steps. These recurring lesson components describe how process standards are incorporated across lessons throughout the course.
The
Guía de recursos para maestros, section “Qué hay en una lección de matemáticas de Kiddom,” describes how the “Calentamiento” phase incorporates and reinforces mathematical processes throughout the course. The guide explains that these routines provide opportunities for students to draw on personal experiences and mathematical knowledge while communicating ideas, asking questions, justifying reasoning, critiquing the reasoning of others, and developing number sense and procedural fluency through mental computation and mathematical reasoning. The guide also describes recurring warm-up routines, including “Represéntalo,” “Conteo grupal,” “Exploración de estimación,” “¿Cuántos ves?,” “Observa y pregúntate,” “Conversación numérica,” “Preguntas sobre nosotros,” “¿Verdadero o falso?,” “¿Qué sabes sobre _____?,” and “¿Cuál no pertenece?,” and explains that these routines are used throughout the curriculum to incorporate problem-solving, reasoning, communication, representation, and mathematical connections across grade levels and units.
