Materials include a lesson overview listing the teacher and student materials necessary to effectively deliver the lesson, and the suggested timing for each lesson component.
The grade K, unit 11, “Daily Planner” identifies the educator and student materials needed to teach three-dimensional shapes. In lesson 11.1 “Flat and Solid Shapes,” the planner lists student workbook resources, independent practice resources, the “Flat Shapes” activity, a flashlight, and sets of geometric solids or wooden blocks, including a sphere, cube, and cylinder. In lesson 11.2 “Describe Solid Shapes,” the planner lists student resources, the “Roll or Slide” activity, sets of geometric solids or wooden blocks, a ball, and a small box. These examples show that the materials include both student-facing resources and physical objects or manipulatives needed for instruction.
The grade K, unit 2, “Daily Planner,” also outlines materials for each daily lesson. For example, lessons list student workbook resources, independent practice resources, dice, crayons, linked cubes, counters, and number strips. The planner also identifies online practice skills, support skills, games, unit quizzes, unit tests, and “Personalization Day.” This guidance helps educators prepare the student materials, manipulatives, games, and digital practice resources needed before instruction begins.

Discover Takeoff by IXL: Comprehensive Lesson Plans guide provides suggested timing for lesson implementation. The guide divides each lesson into a five-minute warm-up, 15–20 minutes of instruction, 10–15 minutes of guided practice, and 15–20 minutes of independent practice. This timing guidance helps educators understand the lesson structure and how instructional time is allocated to prior knowledge activation, educator-led instruction, supported practice, and independent application.
