Evaluation for 4.1a
Practice opportunities over the course of a lesson and/or unit (including instructional assessments) require students to demonstrate depth of understanding aligned to the TEKS.
In the
Assessment Suite, module 3, topic 7, students demonstrate depth of understanding aligned to the grade 1 geometry TEKS by identifying, classifying, composing, and sorting shapes based on attributes. The “End-of-Topic Assessment” asks students to determine which pattern blocks create a rectangle, identify a hexagon, choose attributes of a square, draw a shape with three sides and three vertices, use pattern blocks to compose shapes in different ways, and create a hexagon using three different pattern block shapes. Students also identify spheres, determine attributes of cones, sort rectangles and non-rectangles, identify non-defining attributes such as size and color, and sort solids by whether they roll. These tasks require students to apply geometric reasoning across two-dimensional and three-dimensional representations.
In the
Assessment Suite, module 3, the “End-of-Module Assessment” also requires students to demonstrate depth of understanding across multiple grade 1 concepts. Students match analog and digital clocks, measure objects using nonstandard units, explain why measurements are different when using paper clips and connecting cubes, write and solve an addition story problem with an unknown starting amount, identify attributes of a hexagon, sort triangles and non-triangles, compose a larger shape from two squares, identify pattern blocks that create a triangle, partition a shape into two equal parts, and identify shapes partitioned into fourths. These assessment tasks require students to apply understanding of time, measurement, operations, shape attributes, shape composition, and equal shares across a variety of representations and problem types.
