Evaluation for 5.5b
Materials include a description of how TEKS process standards are incorporated and connected throughout the course.
The “Kiddom Math Middle School Teacher Resource Guide”
describes classroom structures that support students in engaging in mathematical discourse, solving problems, reasoning, constructing arguments, modeling with mathematics, using tools strategically, and communicating mathematical ideas. The resource guide states, “The curriculum materials include classroom structures that support students in taking risks, engaging in mathematical discourse, productively struggling through problems, and participating in ways that make their ideas visible.” The resource guide also explains that “doing mathematics” means “learning mathematical concepts and procedures while engaging in the mathematical practices—making sense of problems, reasoning abstractly and quantitatively, constructing arguments and critiquing the reasoning of others, modeling with mathematics, using appropriate tools strategically, attending to precision in their use of language, looking for and making use of structure, and expressing regularity in repeated reasoning.”
The
Grade 7 Advanced Math Scope and Sequence identifies the TEKS process standards addressed across the course, and the “Course Narrative” includes descriptions of how students engage in reasoning, estimation, problem-solving, representation, and mathematical communication. For example, the materials state, “Students use multiple representations, tables, graphs, diagrams, and equations, to analyze and solve problems involving scaling, recipes, speed, and financial scenarios.” The “Course Narrative” also describes how students analyze transformations and develop precise language to describe mathematical relationships. These descriptions show how process standards connect to mathematical content throughout the course.
