Evaluation for 4.3a
Materials provide opportunities for students to explore a variety of discipline-specific art forms (e.g., variety of media, variety of performance genres and styles).
The course “Art Materials and Supplies” list in the table of contents includes diverse media, such as crayons, markers, oil pastels, colored pencils and chalk, tempera paints, watercolors, various papers, styrofoam, wax paper, linoleum, clay, cotton cloth, lace, foil, fabric, glass containers, wire, beads, rivets, magazines, paraffin wax, wallpaper, felt, twigs, potatoes, turnips, carrots, and yarn. To support a variety of art forms, the section “Teaching About Styles, Periods, and World Cultures” enables educators to examine art through a historical lens; among the genres and categories covered in this text are still life, realism, and nonobjective art.
In lesson 4.8, “People and Parks: Landscape Design,” students collaboratively “create a drawing, digital plan, or model of a park or other public space.” The educator provides diverse media and tools such as sketch paper, a computer with design software, cardboard, twigs, sponges and other soft materials for creating foliage, and small pebbles.
