Evaluation for 4.3a
Materials provide opportunities for students to explore a variety of discipline-specific art forms (e.g., variety of media, variety of performance genres and styles).
The “Art Materials and Supplies” list in the Table of Contents shows the variety of media to be used in Grade 5 art projects, including crayons, markers, colored pencils, oil pastels, chalk, assorted papers, tempera paint, watercolors, clay, cloth, foil, newspaper, magazines, yarn, heavy cardboard, buttons, ribbons, cloth, thread, greeting cards, and found objects, including recycled and natural materials. To support a range of styles, “Teaching About Styles, Periods, and World Cultures” enables educators to examine art through the lens of history; styles in this text include realism, cubism, and photorealism.
In lesson 3.1, “Surprising Images: Photomontage,” students create a thematic photomontage using old photographs, magazines, paper, and glue. Educators provide visual examples and guiding questions to direct students toward creations that are organized around thematic questions and variety of materials.
