Evaluation for 4.1d
Materials include activities and tasks that require students to demonstrate understanding of discipline-specific artistic literacy in alignment with the course TEKS.
The materials integrate music vocabulary throughout instruction, enabling students to develop and apply artistic literacy aligned with the course TEKS. For example, in lesson 11 “Singing Solfège,” the “Define, Move, Connect, and Paraphrase” sequence introduces vocabulary, such as
staff,
lines,
spaces,
solfège,
do, mi, sol, la, melody,
pitch, and
notation, through singing, discussion, and notation activities. Educators guide students to identify notes on the staff, compare melodic direction, read pentatonic patterns, and sing folk songs using solfège, reinforcing the TEKS 2.1.C.i, 2.2.B.i–ii, and 2.3.A.ii. These experiences help students apply music vocabulary to read, perform, and communicate musical ideas with increasing accuracy.
The materials engage students in activities that develop artistic literacy through music vocabulary and listening analysis aligned with the course TEKS. For example, in lesson 22 “Basic Tempos,” students use “Boomwhacky Mountain” to connect everyday experiences with musical tempo before identifying and describing changes using the terms
largo,
moderato, and
allegro. Educators guide students through questioning, listening, and discussion as they analyze and classify tempo changes, reinforcing the TEKS 2.1.C.i, 2.2.A.iii, and 2.6.B.i. These activities help students apply music vocabulary to analyze and describe expressive elements in authentic listening experiences.
