Evaluation for 8.B.4b
Materials include systematic opportunities for practice of and application of Spanish grammar, punctuation, and usage, both in and out of context. (S)
The “Mapa curricular de Grado K” and
Cuaderno de actividades resources provide a progression of systematic opportunities for students to practice and apply Spanish grammar, punctuation, and usage through explicit skill practice and meaningful reading and writing experiences. The unit 6 “Dictado” routine also provides students with opportunities to write words, phrases, and sentences connected to the
Libro de lectura. Additionally, beginning in unit 8, students are introduced to correction marks to support editing skills, including correcting capitalization, spelling, and punctuation, allowing students to apply language conventions as they develop their writing skills. The
Habilidades y Destrezas 7 provides further opportunities for students to practice and apply grammar and usage skills. Through the various lessons of the unit, students complete words by writing missing syllables and practice writing proper names, reinforcing spelling patterns and capitalization, trace complete sentences, and discuss the character Pili la vaca from “Para llegar al mar.” Additionally, students draw the character, write their name, and write a sentence describing the character, applying vocabulary and sentence structures to communicate ideas. In lesson 10 students practice using prepositions such as
en,
arriba de, and
debajo de to complete sentences while describing locations and positions. These opportunities support students as they develop an understanding of Spanish grammar, punctuation, and usage and apply conventions toward meaningful writing tasks in connection to texts and classroom experiences.
In
Habilidades y Destrezas 8, students engage in a progression that begins with structured practice of individual language conventions and continues with application in authentic writing tasks. Throughout the unit, students participate in
dictados de oraciones, where they write complete dictated sentences using high-frequency words and present-tense verbs. Students then reread and
autocorrigen their work by reviewing capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and handwriting. In lesson 7 “Escribir oraciones,” students independently compose original sentences using words with the target spelling pattern ending in
n, applying sentence structure and Spanish conventions in meaningful sentence-level writing. Students then transfer these skills to the personal narrative writing process in lessons 13–17, where they generate ideas, organize events, draft multiple connected sentences, and revise their writing. During drafting and editing, students apply correct sentence formation, verb usage, capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary within an authentic composition rather than isolated exercises. These opportunities continue through revision and publishing as students reread, correct, and improve their narratives before sharing their final work. The materials provide a systematic progression from explicit practice of Spanish conventions to independent application within complete written texts, supporting students’ development of accurate and effective written communication in Spanish.
