Evaluation for 4.C.3b
Materials include explicit (direct) instruction in decoding and encoding one-syllable and multisyllabic words in alignment with grade-level TEKS as appropriate for the program's stated purpose.
The Amira Instruct educator-led lessons provide explicit, direct instruction in decoding one-syllable and multisyllabic words, support grade-level instruction, and provide additional practice and targeted support. The lessons include clearly stated learning targets, educator-led explanations, modeling, guided practice, independent application, and opportunities for review and feedback. For example, in the lesson “Reading and Spelling Multisyllabic
r-Controlled Words” educators explicitly model how to decode multisyllabic words by identifying
r-controlled syllable patterns and applying them to read increasingly complex words. In the “Launch,” “Teach,” and “Model” sections of this lesson educators connect new learning to previously taught syllable patterns; introduce the “Map, Scan, Read” strategy; and model how to divide words into syllables, identify
r-controlled vowel patterns, and blend those syllables together to read words like

characteristics, and
perseverance. Then, students practice decoding additional multisyllabic words with educator support before independently applying the same decoding routine. These instructional supports provide explicit explanations, educator modeling, guided practice, review, and feedback while supporting grade-level instruction and providing targeted remediation and acceleration when needed.
Similarly, the educator-led lessons provide explicit, direct instruction in encoding. The lessons include clearly stated learning targets, educator-led explanations, modeling, guided practice, independent application, and opportunities for review and feedback. For example, in the lesson “Reading & Spelling with Advanced Syllable Division” educators explicitly model how to encode multisyllabic words by identifying advanced syllable division patterns, including VCCV, VCCCV, and VV, and applying those patterns to spell complete words. In the “Teach” section of the lesson educators explain each syllable division pattern using an anchor chart and model how to divide and build multisyllabic words. Then, students practice encoding words by combining syllables to construct words like

constellation,
cooperation, and
illustration before independently applying targeted spelling patterns during the “Write It: Show What You Know!” activity. These instructional supports provide a gradual release from educator modeling to student application while reinforcing accurate encoding of one-syllable and multisyllabic words.
