English Language Arts and Reading - Phonics
Publisher: Essential Skills
ELAR, Phonics, Grade 1 (IMRA25)
Program: Super Phonics, Grade 1
Component: N/A (ISBN: N/A)
Provide the verbal modeling of the word that you are having the learner identify so that they are not only viewing the word, but also hearing the correct pronunciation of the word.
Word Match
It would be beneficial to learners to see the direction in a written format throughout the grade one program.
Directions throughout the entire grade one program.
In this section the name of the letter is provided, but the learner is only expected to repeat the letter and there is no phonemic learning that is taking place. For first grade, this does not seem to be developmentally appropriate for the level of learning that the student should be experiencing.
Letter match - part 1
See and Match has the word "Vim" for the letter v. I would recommend using a word more familiar to a six year old.
K Qu V X Y Z
Letter sound that is stated when the learner clicks on the first letter should be repeated throughout the activity as we as the name of the letter.
Common reversal activity
Instructions are unclear for the learner when the developer says to click on the letters that will make a word with the word family, but it is unclear of how the letters are being blended together.
Short vowels: Word Families
Throughout the entire program the author should pronounce the words so that the learner is able to hear the words pronounced properly before they are prompted to follow any directives. Hearing the word will aid the learner in blending the letter sounds.
Long Vowels
Spelling Bee - The word "meat" is said by the instructor, but I typed "meet" and got it wrong. If you use homophones, then the instructor needs to use the word in a sentence to let the learner know which word they are wanting spelled.

Beginning Sounds: BFMST/CDLPR/GHJNW/KqUvxyz
Component: Super Phonics (ISBN: N/A)
Would recommend removing the listening ear, as that is listening vs decoding. If you remove the scaffold of hearing the spoken word, it requires decoding skills.
From the Phonemic Awareness main menu, navigate to "Digraph Phonemes", then "ch", then "Where is the ch Sound?".
