Thank you for the notification.
Teachers are directed to say, "Listen to the sounds in the word 'these'." Then the phonetic pronunciation is indicated as /th- e-s/, which is incorrect. On a previous page in the Teachers' Guide the sounds were represented correctly as /th-e-z/. The /s/ needs to be revised.
In the left column of p.118 of the Teachers' Guide in the lesson titled 'Decode Long e-silent e'.
We will make this edit.
Question 5 in 'Spiral Review Assessment 1: Phonological Awareness' asks students how many syllables are in the word 'elephant' with the correct answer being four. That is incorrect. There are three syllables in the word 'elephant.'

We have edited the answer key.
The question states, "Which word has 'p' as the last sound?" Two answer choices with the last sound of 'p' are provided (map, tap). However, the answer key incorrecly only identifies the word 'map' as the correct answer.
Question #2 on page 17 of Quick Check #8 of the Assessment Guide
We will edit this question to be accurate.
Question #2 asks, "What word do you get when you blend the sounds /b/ /e/ /ch/?" The /n/ is omitted. However, the answer key identifies 'bench' with the letter 'n' as the correct answer. The /n/ needs to be added to the question's stem.

We will make this edit.
Question 5 states, "What word do you get when you add /ch/ to the end of the word 'hunch'? The answer choices are a) hunchback b)hutch c)hitch d)crunch. The correct answer would be nonsense word "hunchch", which is not listed on the answer key.

The question asks, "Which of the following words has the same ending sound as "earth"? The words 'path' 'mouth' and 'width' are three correct answer choices, however the answer key only lists one word as the correct answer ('width').

Thank you for your feedback.
The question asks, "Which word has the same vowel sound as "rope"? Of the answer choices provided, the words 'row' and 'road' both have the same vowel sound as the word 'rope'. According to the answer key, the correct choice is the word 'road' and that is not true.
Question 12 on the bottom right corner of page 47, under the 'Spiral Review Assessment 3: Long Vowels', subsection titled 'Identify Long and Short Vowels'
We have revised the question and the answer.

The answer key lists the word "peeling" as the correct response. A student who adds "ee" to the beginning of the word "ling" would end up with a nonsense word "eeling."

We will make this edit.
The question asks, "What word do you get when you blend the sounds /p/ /l/ /ā/ /n/?" The answer lists the word 'plane' as correct, however, when blending those sounds you could also make the word 'plain'. Both words use the same sounds (including that long a), just spelled differently.
Question 4 is on the left side of page 55, under 'Quick Check Assessment 25: Long Vowel Patterns'
Thank for your feedback.
The question prompts students to identify the letter that makes the vowel long in the word "tube". According to the Science of Reading, we use the forward slash punctuation to identify sounds in words, not letters. The usage of that punctuation in this question (specifically as answer choices) is misleading and incorrect. The answer choices should be written without the forward slashes to indicate letters.
Question 8 is on the right side of page 56, under subsection 'Long Vowel Silent-e Pattern' in 'Spiral Review Assessment 4: Long Vowel Patterns'
Thank you for your feedback.
The question asks, "Which word has the same vowel pattern as "soap"? There are two correct choices ('goat' and 'goal'), however, the answer key lists the word 'goat' as the only correct response.
Question 11 is located at the top left corner of page 57, subsection 'Vowel Teams' under 'Spiral Review Assessment 4: Long Vowel Patterns'
We accept this change.
A grammatical error in questioning. The question prompts student to identify a sentence from a list of three that correctly uses words with inflectional endings. The phrasing here suggests that the correct sentence should include multiple words with inflectional endings. The word "walks" is the only word with an inflectional ending.
The final question at the bottom right side of page 61.
Thank you for your feedback.
The question directs students to, "Choose the word that has the aw sound." The answer key lists answer choice c ('straw') as the correct response, but answer choice a ('pause') is another acceptable response. Both words (though spelled differently) contain the au/aw sound. The phrasing of the question doesn't require the word to use a specific spelling pattern, just to identify a specific sound.
Question 3 is located on the left side of page 67, under 'Quick Check Assessment 4: Diphthongs (oi/oy, au/aw)'
We will accept these changes and make the edit.
The question asks, "Which word contains the oi sound?" The answer key lists answer choice b ('coin') as the correct response, but answer choice a ('toy') is another acceptable response. Both words (though spelled differently) contain the oi sound. The phrasing of the question doesn't require the word to use a specific spelling pattern, just a specific sound.
