Evaluation for 5.2c
Materials provide opportunities for students to evaluate mathematical representations, models, strategies, and solutions for efficiency, flexibility, and accuracy throughout learning pathways.
The materials provide opportunities for students to evaluate the accuracy of mathematical representations, models, strategies, and solutions throughout learning pathways. Students justify their approaches, provide evidence that answers are valid, identify common mistakes, and correct errors in the problem-solving process. In the “Exponential and Logarithmic Equations” lesson, students determine which statements are true or false, explain why a logarithmic property is applied incorrectly, and verify correct answers during discussion.
The materials provide opportunities for students to evaluate mathematical representations, models, strategies, and solutions for flexibility throughout learning pathways. Students move between graphical, algebraic, and contextual representations of functions, including exponential, logarithmic, polynomial, rational, and power functions. In the “Rational Functions” lesson, students analyze transformations, key features, asymptotes, discontinuities, and left- and right-sided behavior, which supports flexible evaluation of functions across equations, graphs, and written descriptions.
Lesson 22 “Vectors” provides an opportunity for students to evaluate mathematical representations, models, strategies, and solutions for efficiency throughout learning pathways. For instance, in the “Elaborate” section, students work in groups and discuss their problem-solving processes. With their group members, students answer the following questions: “How did you solve this problem? Can you think of any other ways to approach the problem? What is something you could say or provide to convince the class that your approach is valid?”
