Evaluation for 6.1a
Materials include experiential learning through classroom experiences (e.g., labs, workplace simulations, project-based learning) and/or work-based learning (e.g., job shadowing, internships, practicums) to develop or reinforce the real-world application of technical and employability skills in the context of the course and aligned to the appropriate level on the work-based learning continuum.
In unit 2, students participate in authentic work-based experiential learning through an ongoing SAE. In this activity, students select and activate an industry-standard tracking system such as the Agricultural Experience Tracker, enter preliminary project details, and submit proof that their record system is live. Students must plan how they will consistently document hours, tasks, expenses, decisions, and photographic evidence of their agricultural work over time. By using a professional SAE platform that real Future Farmers of America (FFA) students and agricultural workers rely on, students take part in genuine experiential learning that reinforces both technical skills (e.g., record keeping, documentation, project management) and employability skills (e.g., responsibility, consistency, and professionalism).
Chapter 5 features structured, classroom-based plant production labs that reinforce the practical application of technical propagation techniques and greenhouse leadership behaviors. Within these interactive simulations, students operate in collaborative greenhouse management teams to monitor water chemistry, balance nutrient delivery schedules, and manage climate control systems for a simulated commercial crop cycle. The lesson plans guide the educator to evaluate student performance using formal workplace readiness rubrics, assessing technical precision alongside core employability skills like team coordination, resource conservation, and adaptive troubleshooting. This hands-on lab environment corresponds with the simulated workplace tier of the work-based learning continuum to develop authentic agricultural competencies.
