Evaluation for 5.A.1a
Units are designed to build knowledge based in the fields of science, history, literature, and the arts.
The ¡Arriba la lectura! grade 5 lessons are grouped into units that help students build knowledge in various subjects, including science, social studies, literature, and the arts. Each unit is based on a theme and utilizes various types of texts, including stories, poems, articles, and biographies, to help students gain a deeper understanding of the topic. In Module 3, "Desastres naturales," students learn about natural disasters through texts including fiction, nonfiction, and persuasive writing. These texts help students understand what natural disasters are and how they affect people. In Module 4, "El Lejano Oeste," students focus on history. They learn about the westward expansion by reading various types of texts, including historical fiction and articles that depict what life was like for the people who migrated west. In Module 6, "Arte para todos," the focus is on the arts. Students read biographies about artists and performers like Rita Moreno, Louis Armstrong, and Phillis Wheatley. They also read poetry and stories that show how people express themselves through music, art, and writing. Other modules build on these ideas. For example, in Module 10, students read about animal behavior in science. In Module 2, they learn about storytelling and story elements through creative fiction. In Module 7, they complete a fun project where they research three famous explorers and write short biographies.
