Evaluation for 5.2c
Materials emphasize the use of academic, professional, and technical vocabulary during career development opportunities.
Career development opportunities embed discipline-specific language into workplace, career, and planning tasks. For example, in the unit 7 activity ”How Do Teamwork and Planning Influence the Success of My Floral Business?”, students apply academic, professional, and technical vocabulary while completing a collaborative business planning activity. Students additionally reflect on workplace culture to examine how teamwork, communication, and planning contribute to productivity and success in a floral business. Students develop a business plan with multiple sections that requires accurate use of industry terminology and professional language while evaluating successful workplace environments and demonstrating appropriate oral and written communication. The unit 7 lesson plan also incorporates an SAE career-planning activity in which students build a dual-language vocabulary list, use instructional organizers to learn industry-specific terminology, and transition from brainstorming ideas to developing formal presentation scripts that require correct use of vocabulary in context.
The materials reinforce career-related vocabulary through technical skill development and professional communication activities across the course. In activities focused on floral wiring techniques, students identify, practice, and reflect on specialized technical vocabulary, including
piercing,
cross-piercing,
hook, and
clutch wiring methods, while selecting appropriate floral-wire gauges such as 20, 22, and 28. These activities connect technical vocabulary directly to industry skills used in floral design. Additionally, unit 8, lesson 5 concludes the career-development sequence with a comprehensive vocabulary review in which students write and present a professional script using academic, technical, and professional vocabulary from the entire unit. Students incorporate content specific terminology, varied sentence structures, and transition words while communicating career goals, self-assessments, research findings, and specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals for career success.
