Evaluation for 4.3a
Materials provide opportunities for students to explore a variety of discipline-specific art forms (e.g., variety of media, variety of performance genres and styles).
Students explore a wide range of discipline-specific art forms through “Studio Investigation,” “For Your Art Journal,” and “Digital Connection” activities in the Student Edition. These tasks introduce media such as drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, collage, digital art, photography, plaster, and clay, as well as activities such as assemblage, jewelry design, installation, and design. “Studio Investigations” and “Studio Experience” lessons extend this exploration by engaging students with additional art forms, including basketry and other fiber art, and with traditional and contemporary media.
The course materials list suggests that students explore a wide range of discipline-specific art forms using varied substrates, drawing media, painting supplies, printmaking tools, and sculpture materials. The list includes surfaces such as canvas, bristol board, vellum, cardboard, collage paper, colored paper, drawing paper, foam core, transfer paper, printmaking paper, rice paper, and watercolor paper. Students work with drawing materials including chalk, charcoal, Conté crayons, colored pencils, graphite, pastels, ink, and blending tools, as well as water-based and optional oil-based paints. Printmaking options such as linoleum and Gelli plate printing, along with sculpture materials including assemblage supplies, wire, clay, armature materials, papier-mâché, wood, and plaster, further expand the range of artistic forms available. As noted, students can also engage in photography, media arts, fiber art, jewelry making, and mosaics. Many lessons incorporate “Choice Centers” with guidance for educators on preparing exploration stations that support student decision-making for larger studio experiences.
