Evaluation for 4.2c
Materials integrate academic, technical, and employability knowledge and skills in the context of the course and in alignment to the course TEKS.
Throughout the implementation guidance, the materials explain how lesson components intentionally combine career preparation with academic learning and workplace skills. For example, the
Implementation and Quality Guide states that lesson plans include “explicit, direct instruction guidance on industry-specific knowledge and skills in alignment with the course TEKS, where applicable,” while also emphasizing the use of “academic, professional, and technical vocabulary during career development opportunities.” In addition, the guide directs educators to “apply academic and technical knowledge and skills to authentic, real-world, industry-specific problems and develop and evaluate viable solutions.” Together, these components integrate academic, technical, and employability knowledge and skills within the context of the course and in alignment with the course TEKS.
Furthermore, the lesson activities require students to integrate academic, technical, and employability knowledge and skills as they solve workplace problems and communicate solutions. Across the lesson sequence, students apply academic reasoning while demonstrating technical understanding and professional behaviors in authentic career contexts. For example, in the unit 5 lesson plan, the “Your Turn” activity asks students to generate and solve workplace problems before presenting their solutions to classmates. Later, a quiz requires students to create scenarios that use charts, graphs, or tables, and in activity 2, “Can You Spot the Problem in the Numbers?” students apply problem-solving skills to workplace situations. By combining content knowledge, critical-thinking, communication, and professional collaboration within the same activities, the materials integrate academic, technical, and employability knowledge and skills in alignment with the course TEKS.
