Evaluation for 3.2b
Materials include teacher guidance and recommendations for effective lesson delivery and facilitation using a variety of instructional approaches.
The Topic Implementation Guide for each topic includes several sections with guidance and recommendations for effective lesson delivery using a variety of instructional approaches. For example, in the guide, unit 6, topic D, section 3 identifies a strategy for each mathematical process standard covered in the topic, such as “Frame every calculation around a realistic banking scenario rather than an abstract formula drill.” Section 5 provides several monitoring and coaching suggestions; for example, “Listen for students treating a checking account and a savings account as interchangeable, and redirect them to the specific differences.” Section 8 outlines some recommendations for alternate strategies; for instance, “Use color-coding to distinguish each variable (
P,
r,
n,
t) consistently across the formula, a table, and a graph when first comparing account options.”
The materials include multiple types of practice in each lesson that support guided, independent, and collaborative practice. Each lesson includes a warm-up, written practice sets, and interactive practice sets that support independent practice. Scaffolded practices, guided notes, and enhanced instruction support guided practice. Problem-Based Tasks support collaborative practice. The materials include student-facing materials, answer keys, and instructional guides for effectively facilitating lesson delivery through guided, independent, or collaborative practice within the lesson components.
