Evaluation for 3.2c
Materials include multi-tiered intervention methods for various types of practice and structures and educator guidance to support effective implementation.
All students are provided with the same materials and tasks with no differentiation or tiers of support based on need. For example, all students receive support through the “TEKS Lesson” and “Guided Practice” sections, collaborate with peers during the “Partner Practice,” and engage with tasks independently through the “Independent Practice” section. However, these are part of the lesson design, not an intervention. The materials do not include guidance for educators on implementing multi-tiered intervention methods.
The “Flexible Use” section states that the materials are supplemental practice materials that can be implemented across multiple instructional settings, including intervention blocks. This section states that this flexibility allows educators to adapt the materials to meet their students’ needs and classroom schedules. However, the grade 4 materials do not include multi-tiered intervention methods for various types of practice or structures.
The “Guided Practice,” “Partner Practice,” and “Independent Practice” sections do not provide multi-tiered interventions based on student need. The materials provide different ways for students to engage with the same
4th Grade Math Practice Book Student Edition components, such as educator-led activities, partner practice, independent practice, and engaging activities, but do not provide differentiated interventions within these structures. All students engage with the same materials and tasks without targeted or intensive supports based on identified needs. Although the
4th Grade Math Implementation Guide suggests using the materials for small-group instruction or intervention, it does not provide criteria for determining which students need additional support, guidance for forming groups based on student data, specific intervention activities, or direction for selecting and targeting identified skill deficits. The flexibility to use the same materials across different instructional groupings does not demonstrate a multi-tiered system of increasingly targeted intervention supports.
