Evaluation for 3.2b
Educator-led supplemental programs include educator guidance and recommendations for effective delivery and facilitation using a variety of instructional approaches.
The materials include educator guidance and recommendations for effective delivery and facilitation using a variety of instructional approaches. The
Implementation Guide contains an “Effective Lesson Delivery” section that provides guidance on lesson objectives, lesson structure, grade-level focus areas, and instructional best practices. In addition, the
Teacher Guide includes a “How to Use Phonemic Awareness and Phonics Toolkit, Intervention: Foundational Skills” section that explains key lesson components, including objectives, materials, educator modeling, scripted instruction, differentiation, skills, words, and manipulatives. Lessons incorporate multiple instructional approaches, including gradual release (“I Do, We Do, You Do”), multimodal learning experiences, small-group instruction, visual supports, and hands-on activities.
The materials provide additional implementation guidance through embedded educator scripting and structured lesson routines. The “Introduction to Pre-Teaching Routines” section recommends explicit instruction and student engagement strategies to reinforce learning. Lessons consistently follow an “I Do, We Do, You Do” structure that provides opportunities for educator-directed instruction, guided practice, and independent application. For example, when teaching students to encode and decode words with prefixes, the materials direct students to use Elkonin Boxes and colored chips to identify prefixes in words such as
untie and
preheat. Students then use Reading Rods to build words with prefixes, including
prevent,
recheck,
untie,
prepay,
remind, and
uncut. Additional lessons also incorporate manipulatives to support phoneme segmentation and blending, such as using Elkonin Boxes and colored chips to identify the /or/ sound in
sort.
