Evaluation for 3.2a
Educator-led supplemental programs include explicit (direct) prompts and guidance to support the educator in modeling and explaining the skill(s) to be learned.
The materials include Support Sheets that guide educators and recommend effective delivery and facilitation through a variety of instructional approaches. For lessons that target foundational skills, such as the lesson “2 syllable +
K,” the Support Sheets provide educators with specific prompts to read during instruction, enabling them to model and explain the skills to be learned. In this lesson, the educator receives targeted “Suggestions and Tips,” such as “Provide clear demonstrations of individual sounds, sound combinations, and full-word production.” Support Sheets also include lesson-delivery scripts.
The materials provide brief, explicit prompts that help educators model and explain reading-comprehension skills. For example, the comprehension lesson “Characteristics of Children’s Literature” offers clear, actionable guidance, including a lesson introduction, direct instruction, an activity, guided practice, assessment components, grade-level discussion starters, and an answer key. The grade-level discussion-starter prompt reads, “To deepen the lesson based on the specific grade, ask these follow-up questions,” and then provides a list of questions differentiated for each grade.
In the educator-led portion of the MindPlay Reading Studio program, the prompts explicitly help educators model and explain the concepts students will learn. For example, the lesson “Consonant -
le Support Sheet” directs educators in the “Strategies and Tips” section to “provide clear demonstrations of individual sounds, sound combinations, and full-word production.” Educators print Chant Cards, cut them out, glue the pieces together, and laminate the cards, then use them for spiral review throughout the year. The “Coach” section provides educators with an explicit script to model and explain the consonant
-le pattern.
