Evaluation for 4.1b
Questions and tasks, including enrichment and extension materials, increase in rigor and complexity, leading to grade-level and above grade-level proficiency in the mathematics TEKS.
In the “Extend” phase of the “Division: Use Tens” strategy, students progress from dividing multiples of 5 using base 10 blocks and equal groups to analyzing division patterns, decomposing numbers to find quotients, and applying multiplication strategies to solve division problems. Students move from concrete representations to explaining relationships among dividends, divisors, and quotients; identifying patterns in quotient changes; and justifying the strategies they used to find a solution.
The “Doubling” strategy provides practice opportunities across the “Prepare,” “Introduce,” “Reinforce,” “Practice,” and “Extend” phases. In these phases, students repeatedly apply a given strategy in multiple formats such as fact card analysis, partner and group games, and structured problem-solving activities. Across the phases, students engage in tasks that require them to use the “Doubling” strategy to determine products, compare expressions, and justify their thinking during gameplay and collaborative practice, allowing them to deepen their understanding of multiplication facts through repeated application, reasoning, and strategy selection rather than isolated skill practice.
