Advanced Biliteracy materials include texts at varying levels of complexity that increase through levels of meaning, text structure, knowledge demands, syntax, and academic vocabulary. Across the level, students read texts addressing scientific explanations, historical events, cultural traditions, environmental topics, and realistic narratives that require interpretation beyond literal meaning. Literary texts incorporate structures, including flashbacks, multiple plotlines, character dilemmas, and evolving motivations, while informational texts present historical, scientific, and cultural content with increasingly specialized vocabulary and complex organizational structures. The collection also introduces abstract themes such as courage, identity, responsibility, cultural understanding, memory, and personal growth, requiring students to analyze relationships among ideas, events, and characters.
